Maybe more of the local guys would feel the same if our 1st DMR radio was the Hytera, but there's plenty of clean used 6550's out there for less than the Hytera, so that's what we use. He just felt the Hytera was easier to use, & since he needed cash, he sold the XPR. He did admit both radios worked equally well, but because he started with Hytera, & the dealer gave him the disc for free, he would stay with them & he sold his XPR6550. Since he wasn't going to pay for a disc, he had a friend program his radio. Later on he traded some radio stuff which cost him nothing for a XPR6550. ![]() My buddy Andrew started off with a Hytera DMR radio, & the dealer gave him the prog disc for free. And there's no going back to the older fw where there was no problem. Last weeks fw upgrade improved some minor issues, but not the major issue. However a few fw upgrades ago a problem developed with the Hytera repeaters which needs to be resolved with another upgrade which won't be out until July. Most of the guys on our DMR network use the Moto XPR radios, but for certain technical reasons, they prefer the Hytera repeaters. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola). The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate just purchase it.įor M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
